<Legislator>

Dear <Legislator>:
With gas prices at an all-time high, it is inconceivable that the legislature would even consider allowing regional transportation agencies to add more taxes to what we pay at the pump, or to increase vehicle registration fees, to pay for vague climate change programs. That this tax could go on for the next 30 years is even more amazing and unacceptable! This bill originally applied only to Los Angeles, but was amended to include the Bay Area after a similar bill, AB 2744, was defeated in the Assembly Transportation Committee. This shameless attempt to circumvent the decision of other elected legislators in order to raise our taxes is outrageous and should not be tolerated. Global warming is already being addressed at the state level, and greenhouse gas mitigation will doubtless cost taxpayers dearly. We simply can not afford millions or even billions in new gas taxes or vehicle registration fees at the local level, on top of that.
Please vote NO on AB 2558.
Thank-you.
