Dear <Legislator>:
I am outraged that the senate is considering a new gas tax or vehicle registration fee at a time when energy costs are skyrocketing and a record number of consumers are losing their homes, having their electricity cut off, losing school bus service for their children and facing even higher income taxes and more service cuts because of the legislature’s inability to balance the state budget. It’s even more outrageous that this bill has been expanded to include the entire state, not only Los Angeles and the Bay Area as originally intended. Apparently these changes were made to revive SB 445, a similar measure that was defeated in the Assembly Transportation Committee. This blatant attempt to circumvent the decision of other elected legislators in order to raise our taxes should not be tolerated. Global warming is already being addressed at the state level through AB 32, which is likely to cost taxpayers billions of dollars that will make our already dismal economic climate even worse. We simply can’t afford millions or even billions in new gas taxes or vehicle registration fees on top of everything else. Please vote no on AB 2558.
Thank-you.
